Marta Ortega Cuevas
Marta Ortega is a prominent figure in both classical and contemporary dance. In 2008, she joined Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, under the direction of Maestro Miguel Iglesias, where she advanced to the role of Principal Dancer and Maitre. During her eight years with the company, she premiered in numerous pieces that continue to be part of the company's active repertoire. She collaborated with world-renowned choreographers, including Mats Ek, Rafael Bonachela, Lan Linkens, Juan Kruz, Itzik Galili, Julio César Iglesias, George Céspedes, Pedro Ruiz, Carlos Acosta, Annabelle López Ochoa, Billy Cowie and Ángels Margarit, among others.
In 2015, Marta became a founding member of the Acosta Danza company, directed by the esteemed dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta. She performed principal roles on prestigious stages around the world, showcasing works such as "Imponderable" and "Alrededor no hay Nada" by Goyo Montero, as well as Carlos Acosta's adaptations of "Carmen" and "Don Quixote." Additionally, she starred in "Twelve" by Jorge Crecis, "Portal" by Juanjo Arqués, "Derrumbe" by Miguel Altunaga, "Paysage," and "Mermaid," by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, a duet created especially for her And Carlos Acosta. Marta joined the Tampa City Ballet in 2024 and continues to work on developing a program in Cuba to prepare students who study specialized dance careers.
