WORKS

We saw “If I Cry” at the Palladium quite by accident and we have been fans ever since.

The intimate setting at the Cuban Club made every movement of the dancers immediate and detailed to us. The band was ridiculously tight and swung every number. The breadth of competence across all the dancers was amazing. The principals were as good as you might expect, but the quality of the company dancers and the trainees was ridiculously good!

However the star of the entire evening was the choreography. Piece after piece, setting after setting, corps and featured dancers, every musical style — the choreography was structured, consistent, and climactic. Nothing was rushed. The work of the corps supported and accented the featured dancers. Every dancer was given interesting work and they owned it all. You could see the movement coming from within each dancer. It was evocative and satisfying and thoughtful.

A masterful piece and performance. Thank you so much!!

Interstices | A Break in Continuity

Interstices' story recalls a bygone era - Ybor City in the 1930's - just prior to the outbreak of World War II. The inspiration for this work is drawn from a book entitled Tampa: Impressions of an Emigrant by a Cuban writer, known in his time as the bourgeois intellectual author " Wenceslau Galvez y Delmonte, translated by Noel M. Smith.

Through his eyes we catch a glimpse of life in the century-old Cuban Club of Ybor City in its heyday, where people gathered to eat, drink, flirt, play chess and indulge in the illegal gambling game called "bolitas" (hush.. don't tell the police!). The colorful characters, music and dance bring back to life the rich heritage of Tampa that we can all enjoy!
